Historic Mackinac Island
No trip to northern Michigan would be complete without a visit to Mackinac Island.
With its beautifully preserve Victorian buildings, Historic Fort Mackinac and gift shops galore, the island has a almost carnival feel.
During the summer month the island is a very busy place. The ferries from Mackinaw City and St. Ignace bring a steady stream of visitors to the island.
This year The family and I made a couple of trips around the island by bicycle, and great fun it was. It is just 8 miles around the perimeter of the island. The views are spectacular. Well worth the price of a bike rental.
If you plan on going to Mackinac Island bring good walking shoes, no cars are permitted on the island. The only transport is walking , biking or horse drawn carriage.
